Judy Dyble

I was very saddened to hear that Judy Dyble passed away this week.

Judy was the original singer of Fairport Convention, one half of seminal folk duo Trader Horne and an integral part of what would become King Crimson. Her solo projects were also very beautiful.

In the summer of 2013 Counting Crows bass player Matt Malley and I had driven from all the way to Banbury for the Cropredy festival after a week playing at the Edinburgh festival with Beverly Martyn.

Jetlagged (Matt), exhausted (me) and increasingly bedraggled we had enjoyed a wonderful time at Cropredy but were both looking forward to a little peace and quiet away from the festival buzz.

We found that the following day. Judy had invited us to come over for tea in the afternoon (Matt had contributed to Judy's latest album) and we spent the afternoon hanging out with Judy in her sunlit garden, walking with her dog (she loved greyhounds) and talking about music, life and everything else. There are some days that you just know you'll remember for the rest of your life. This was one.

Thank you Judy.

Matt Malley and Judy Dyble enjoying afternoon tea after a busy week!

Here's some wonderful live footage of Judy with Fairport in 1968 sounding great and looking frankly cool as hell.

Until next time, stay tuned

Michael
