Iconic Instruments - The First Sobell Guitar (1981)

This guitar, the very first by Stefan Sobell (Hexham UK), is a seminal instrument in the history of the the "Golden Age" of modern steel string luthiery. Based loosely on a Martin C1 from the 1930's but with a slightly larger body and far better build quality, this is a tremendously powerful, steely and articulate instrument which foreshadows the extraordinary sound of the Sobell guitars to come. It was an absolute joy to play in the latest instalment of my Iconic Instruments series which I hope you'll enjoy.

There will be more from my visit to the Sobell workshop very soon. Until then

Stay Tuned
