Iconic Instruments - Gibson L1 1919

Just look at this! It's a century old Gibson archtop with a gorgeous dry, sparky voice and a neck like a tree trunk! I filmed this wonderful guitar in Paris while preparing for a private concert with Derek Gripper. There were some truly magnificent instruments in the room that day but this ancient one captured my attention.

And here it is in action in the latest of my Iconic Instruments series on Youtube. I hope you enjoy it. As ever the instrument was recorded in one take with a matched pair of Gefell M300 microphones and no EQ, reverb or effects. Playing an instrument of this vintage is always a real thrill, you can hear the years of music in the guitar. it's very special indeed.

Subscribe to my channel to avoid missing future episodes in this series and do please drop me a like and a comment. If you have a particularly noteworthy instrument (or collection) and you'd be interested in me recording them for posterity then get in touch!

Until next time,

Stay Tuned
